News From The Capital District

by Mike O?Brien

In November, Tom Robertson, Executive Director, Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany, updated the chapter on progress at the agency, and plans for its 100th anniversary in 2008.

During that meeting, we also elected our chapter officers for 2008:

President: Mike O?Brien
Vice President: William Murray
Secretary: Jeff Keister
Treasurer: Kathy Casey
Delegate: Cliff Perez
Member at Large: Jeff Bennett.

As part of December?s monthly meeting, we held our annual holiday party, during which grab bag gifts were exchanged.

Currently, we are making plans to assist with this year?s state Legislative Weekend.

A constitutional revision committee met, and drafted changes to our chapter document which it will propose to the membership at our March meeting. These will be voted on in April.

At our March meeting, we will have a speaker from the CASH Coalition, who will discuss its activities. This group is assisting the disabled community to become more financially savvy, so it can develop more economic independence.

Sometime this spring, we hope to work with Seeing Eye, to host a quiet car demonstration and discussion in the Albany area.
