The M.J. Schmitt First Timers Award was created to honor one of the founding members of the American Council of the Blind. M.J. Schmitt, originally from Rochester, New York, has dedicated her life to education, advocacy and the civil and equal rights of all people who are blind and visually impaired across America. Throughout her lifetime, M.J. Schmitt has held several board of director and officer positions and has served on numerous committees, both as a leader and peer. Her leadership, dedication, knowledge and pizzazz have brought more than words can say to the extended members of the ACB.
The M.J. Schmitt First Timers Award was created to honor the lifetime commitment, grass roots advocacy, leadership and inspiration she has brought to her peers. This award was created in hopes of bringing more members from across the state to statewide events and inspire tomorrow’s leaders of ACBNY. Building leadership within the ACB is a passion for M.J. Her role throughout the years has inspired this award and will bring the strength and leadership needed to carry on.For the criteria for this award please see the link below.
